The life of Dr. E.R. Báez was forever changed when House Resolution HR 9 was passed on February 2, 2023; however, the incumbent, Joaquin Castro, voted "NAY." How could my then-congressman vote against denouncing the horrors of socialism? Although it appears as a social movement, the gist of socialism is not something that the American people want, and indeed, my children do not need it. Socialism alters the distribution of wealth and establishes a social welfare system that is neither pleasant nor sustainable for our current way of life. Then, as recently as November 21, 2025, Castro voted NAY again on H.Con.Res. 58. This is twice that he has shown what he wants for the District: Socialism! But why is Dr. Edgardo Baez so opposed to socialism? Here is his response!
In July 2016, my family and I visited Cuba, a socialist country. It was there that I saw first-hand the injustices of socialism. There were no bathrooms, no water, and no food at the renowned place where the cars of antiquity were displayed. The tour bus driver was a doctor by education, but the GOVERNMENT only allowed her to work as a tour guide. She tried as hard as she could to sell us on the Marxist-Leninist ideologies. At the "restaurant," my father-in-law ordered some chicken soup, which had no chicken.
The experience was so traumatic that it was suppressed in Dr. Báez's mind until the roll call on that faithful House Resolution. I was reminded of how, in Cuba, people were told to eat, and everyone ate the same thing. It was, provided, of course, by the GOVERNMENT. No taste. No choice. Not what the people wanted! The place looked like a military fortress. You have armed police everywhere. It is not what America needs. So, I decided to run for Congress to replace the incumbent who supports SOCIALISM! The reality was devastating: No running water, no food available, no freedom to choose your own profession. People were told what to eat, when to eat, and how to live life. Who wants that for their children? That is why I am running for Congress!
Not for a title; not for politics! But because I refuse to sit back while my children, and yours, inherit a country weakened by the same ideas that have destroyed nations across the globe. My life has always been about service. I have worn many uniforms. I have been a soldier. I have been a critical care nurse. I have served as an attorney for over two decades. I have mentored others and have advocated for families in crisis. These are not just talking points; they are my life!
But here's the truth: This campaign doesn't have the political machine behind it. It has people behind it. People who know our values are worth defending. People who believe Texas should stand firm. People who want a representative who still believes in faith, family, freedom, and responsibility! That representative, that congressman, is not what we have now!
